McDonald’s offering free breakfast to all Colorado 3rd – 5th graders

 

Colorado McDonald’s restaurants will be giving a FREE breakfast to 3rd - 5th graders before they take their TCAP Assessment Test the morning of March 6th. In an effort to help improve scores, McDonald’s is providing a free Egg McMuffin and milk or Minute Maid orange juice to children 11 and under accompanied by a parent/guardian.

The FREE breakfast is part of a daily allowance of nutrition and energy. The Egg McMuffin and 1% milk jug provides 400 calories, 14.5 fat grams, 26 grams of protein and 0 grams of trans fat. The Egg McMuffin and small Minute Maid orange juice provides 450 calories, 0 fat grams, 20 g of protein and 0 grams of trans fat.

McDonald’s owners, who are community member and parents themselves, know the importance of starting the day with a nutritious breakfast, which many children do not have before they start their school day.

The brief also addresses the consequences of being uninsured in Colorado.

Senate has hearing on bill that would help lower income Coloradans with hospital charges

The Senate Health and Human Services Committee will hear SB 134 – the Hospital Payment Assistance Act  – today, Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in Senate Room 356 at the State Capitol, after a morning of constituent lobbying and the 6th annual Colorado Health Care Day of Action.  One hundred health care consumers, business-owners and nonprofit members will advocate to ensure that uninsured working families get the financial assistance information they need to responsibly pay their hospital bills.   Constituent lobbyists will learn how the legislative process works, attending advocacy workshops, meetings with legislators, lunch, a keynote address by Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Bill Corr and a legislative panel entitled Colorado Health Care Vision 2020.
