Broomfield boy recovers from leukemia, reprises Tiny Tim role

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A 6-year-old Broomfield boy diagnosed with
a form of leukemia in April has recovered enough to reprise his
role as Tiny Tim in Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol."

Addison Kleinhans had months of chemotherapy, transfusions and other
treatments after doctors discovered in April he had acute
lymphoblastic leukemia.

He played Tiny Tim in the Colorado Shakespeare Festival's production last year, and after his therapy,
organizers asked if he could do it again.

Red Cross responds to an apartment fire in Thornton

The American Red Cross Mile High Chapter has responded to an apartment fire in Thornton in which three units were affected, and one is currently uninhabitable. One family has been displaced by the fire.

A Red Cross Disaster Action Team was dispatched to an apartment fire at 7549 Pecos in Thornton.  The fire displaced one family.  Red Cross is providing lodging, clothing, food, and other assistance to the displaced family, and is still on-scene to further assess damages and determine how they may further assist the other affected survivors.

More than 100 World War II veterans honored at Veterans Salute ceremony

AURORA, Colo. – In honor of the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II, more than one hundred WWII veterans will receive commemorative coins at a special reception before the annual Veterans Salute luncheon. These men and women will be greeted by local active duty military personnel and thanked for their service before being handed their coin.

More than 800 veterans and their families, military, community and civic leaders and others will honor the more than 25 million living U.S. veterans and active duty personnel, with a particular emphasis this year on military personnel who served in WWII.

Bon Jovi coming to town for January fundraiser

DENVER -- 2011 Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame nominee Bon Jovi will come to Denver on January 21, 2011 to perform an exclusive, one-night show to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Center for Dependency, Addiction and Rehabilitation (CeDAR) and raise funds for its important mission of rebuilding lives.

“The Evening with Bon Jovi is a wonderful opportunity for the community to support CeDAR – a leader in the treatment of dependency and addiction – while enjoying the intimate performance of an American music legend.” says Bruce Schroffel, President and CEO of the University of Colorado Hospital – to which CeDAR is affiliated.  The Evening with Bon Jovi will be held at the Colorado Convention Center and will include a silent auction, dinner and the Bon Jovi concert.

City of Northglenn phone lines down Nov. 5 during the afternoon

The city's phone system will be unavailable on Friday, Nov. 5, from approximately 3 to 5 p.m.

On Friday, the city will be in the midst of switching service providers. During this time, callers will not be able to reach any city lines or voice mail boxes.

150,000 meals donated to area relief agencies

DENVER - FoodWorks Colorado served local hunger relief agencies with free non-perishable food during the agency's fall blessing event.

FoodWorks distributed the equivalent of 150,000 meals during the one day event.
