Fort Lupton and Kersey CNG Stations Open in Weld County

The total number of public Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations located in Weld County reached four this week with station openings in Fort Lupton and in Kersey.

On Tuesday, December 18, 2012, The North Station, located at 7984 U.S. 85 in Fort Lupton, opened its CNG fueling station. Fort Lupton Mayor Tommy Holton and Councilmember Zo Hubbard attended the ribbon cutting ceremony and fueled Fort Lupton’s first CNG vehicle.

On Thursday, December 20, 2012, Kramer’s Wedge Store, located at 103 Hill St. in Kersey, became the fourth public CNG station in the county. Both stations are owned by Zeit Energy and mark a milestone for the Weld County Smart Energy program.

The other two CNG stations, located in Firestone and Greeley, are owned by SkyBlu.

“With stations now located in Firestone, Fort Lupton, Kersey and Greeley, drivers will be able to fuel with CNG throughout the county,” said Kirkmeyer.

Two more Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations will open next week – one in Kersey and one in Fort Lupton – bringing the total number of public CNG stations in Weld County to four.

“We are excited to reach this milestone,” said Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer, who formed the Weld County Natural Gas Coalition in 2009. “One of the goals of the Coalition was to create an alternative fuel corridor between the Denver metro area and Wyoming. With the opening of these two stations, Weld County and the Natural Gas Coalition have reached that goal.”

On Tuesday, December 18, 2012, the Coalition will celebrate the opening of the Fort Lupton station with a grand opening ceremony at 2:00 p.m. The station, owned by ZeitEnergy, will be the first public CNG station to be located in the southeastern part of the county. On Thursday, December 20, 2012, a fourth CNG station, also owned by ZeitEnergy, will open in Kersey with a 2:00 p.m.

Liquefied Natural Gas Trucks Save County Dollars

Liquefied Natural Gas Trucks Save County Dollars

WELD COUNTY, CO – As part of its Smart Energy Plan, Weld County is in the process of converting its government fleet vehicles to natural gas vehicles – both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). On Wednesday, three of the county’s four LNG trucks were on hand at the County Administration Building.

“We are excited about the conversion,” said Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer. “Natural gas vehicles are more efficient and require less maintenance which equates to lower costs for the county.”

The county received its first LNG truck in July 2012 and has already realized a 22% reduction in fuel costs which will equate to approximately $25,000 in fuel savings per year per truck. “Over the life of the truck, we are expecting to save an estimated $100,000 on fuel alone – that’s per truck,” said Jay McDonald, Division Supervisor for Weld County’s Department of Public Works.

A new public Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station is scheduled to open on Thursday, October 18, in Greeley. The SkyBlu CNG fueling station opening celebration begins at 2:00 p.m. at their new fueling site located in the Agfinity station, 1607 2nd Avenue (16th Street and Highway 85 Bypass).

The Greeley SkyBlu station is the second public CNG station to open in Weld County this year. On June 29, SkyBlu opened the first Weld County public CNG station in Firestone near the Highway 119 and I-25 intersection.

“We are excited about the Greeley CNG fueling station,” said Weld County Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer, who formed the Weld County Natural Gas Coalition – a group of government and industry officials working to create an alternative fuel corridor between Colorado and Wyoming. “The more CNG stations that are open to the public, the better.

CDOT Launches "Don't Ruin the Ride" Campaign to Reduce Motorcycle Crashes and Deaths

Nearly 40% of motorcycle fatalities in Colorado involve alcohol, which is why the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is launching its “Don’t Ruin the Ride” motorcycle safety campaign this Labor Day Weekend.

The campaign coincides with the “100 Days of Heat” DUI enforcement period, which culminates after the holiday weekend.

Impaired riding is a major problem that contributed to 27 motorcycle fatalities in Colorado last year, equaling 18% of the state’s total alcohol-related fatalities.  The new campaign will focus on increasing rider awareness of the dangers and consequences of impaired riding, as well encouraging all riders—even after one drink—to find a better way to get home.

Warning to Colorado Drivers: Drive Sober or Face a DUI Arrest Labor Day Weekend

As Coloradans prepare to head out on the roads this Labor Day Weekend, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and statewide law enforcement agencies have a warning: Don’t even think about drinking and driving because DUI patrols will be out in force.
